If any people have the right to gloat over the way they handled COVID 19 it is New Zealanders led by a youthful, female prime minister.

But the country’s PM didn’t gloat over the successful suppression of COVID 19 unless you call doing a happy dance, gloating.

Why insects are some of our best friends.

Insects are declining rapidly — here’s why that needs to change.

What is causing the sharp decline in Insects? Recent studies show human behavior is to blame. Surprise, surprise. Humans, the top predator and the top destructor on the planet.

Researchers say various factors including monoculture farming, deforestation, habitat loss, and illegal use of insecticides are to blame for the plight of insects that are essential to agriculture, ecosystems, and human life and life in general on this planet.

Declines in insect population are a worldwide problem. A study back in 2014 in Science Magazine documented a steep drop in…

if you have it, PLEASE don’t take it for granted. Protect it.

The latest Ex-president of the United States criticized water conservation efforts as not only a waste of time but unnecessary.

He blamed any US water shortages on people flushing the toilet too often as he argued in his usual misinformed and ignorant way for the deregulation of water usage. His claim there is plenty of water around: “It comes down. It’s called rain.” is as stupid if not more so than his solution to wildfires: “Rake the forests.

This pathetic man is misinformed, ill-informed, and ignorant on many fronts. It is a myth that water is a renewable resource. Every…

And white supremacists, jack-booted nazis, proud boy losers………

Photo by Robin Jonathan Deutsch on Unsplash

I don’t hate them, I pity them
The stupid bastards whose ignorance is beyond stupid
Black skins, brown skins, white skins, green skins
We are all the same, all one

Deride and ridicule those who hate
Who try to inflict their stupidity on the naive
The deprived, the underrepresented, the marginalized
And their children and their dreams

There are no races, just one race
Our DNA tells us so
Blacks skins, brown skins, white skin or yellow
We have to bellow, no no no!

We are all one, all one said the…

What is an NFT? A non-fungible token.

Photo by Milad B. Fakurian on Unsplash

I have read many stories the last few months about NFTs and so, decided to see if I could create my own. It was a journey. And not for the faint-hearted or those lacking in patience. What is an NFT or non-fungible token? Non-fungible means more or less, that the token or product is unique or “one of a kind” on a blockchain and cannot be replaced with something else.

The first step in my NFT journey was to find a website that provided the service of both creating an NFT and selling…

Thanks to all of you ink-stained Medium wretches who clapped and sent me notes of support for my two recent posts that probably got the powers that be at Medium a little peeved. Thanks Ching Ching, Mary, Abinas, David, Rene, Sitara, and Randahl, and the many others who read but did not comment. For those that missed them, they can be seen at the following links. Ageism Is Alive and Well on Medium and Why Is Medium Restricting Input To Just American Writers?

It would be interesting to know what percentage of contributing writers to Medium live in foreign lands…

Discrimination for any reason is unfair and undemocratic.

Today I received an email from Medium Magazine as follows:

Hi Michael,

(A) quick reminder that Medium is currently fielding a research study available to creators like you. This study is designed to help us at Medium better understand our creators and how we can do more to serve you in the future.

If you’ve already filled it out, thanks so much! If you haven’t had a chance to complete the survey we still want to hear from you.

If you’re interested in participating, copy and paste the link in your web…

Don't the rest of the world’s writers count?

Photo by Glenn Carstens-Peters on Unsplash

I received an email from Medium the other day calling for input from writers. I thought: this is good — until I read on and discovered that to provide input, a writer had to be domiciled in the USA.

Unfortunately, I deleted the email after reading that as a non-USA resident, I could not contribute. I wish I had kept it to include in this post. Afterwards, I began wondering how many contributing writers are residents of countries other than the USA. …

I am worried about my grandchildren's future.

I am a 77-year-old white male as many of you may already know if you follow my posts. I am not a boomer. I was born before the age of boomers; actually, before there were any classifying of generations. I was born into a time of frugality (post WW2), pre-television, and the beginnings of the plastic industry. I have gone from being very optimistic and upbeat to downright depressed over the future of the human race.

The following is an interview I decided to conduct with myself over my worries and concerns.

Are you ready for a major disruption in your life? We weren't!

At 3:00 AM on Sunday, our power went out. We didn't discover this until we got up on Sunday morning. No coffee, no internet, no hot water, no elevator, no Netflix! Apart from one flashlight and some candles, we were not prepared, even though our local government makes public service announcements on a regular basis advising citizens to have an emergency pack ready. We always made a note of it in our list of things to do. It never got done.

Luckily, we had running water and a…
