A Love Story
It's not just humans that have affection and lifelong love lives.
My wife and I are fortunate to live in West Vancouver, a north shore suburb of beautiful Vancouver where even in the middle of a Canadian winter we are fortunate to be surrounded by green as opposed to white like most of Canada.
In the area of West Vancouver where I live, I just have to walk across the road to access the north shore’s wonderful waterfront walk. A short stroll the other away is Ambleside Park, actually a series of parks that includes soccer and grass hockey fields, tennis courts, baseball diamonds, a nine-hole golf course, a large doggie park including a portion of the beach, as well as beaches for humans with ready access to a variety of restaurants, cafes and bistros. Included in this heady mix is a large pond that is the habitat of a variety of ducks, turtles, gulls, herons and the object of my story, a pair of white mute swans.
This West Vancouver pair have inhabited the pond for around 14 years and every spring have produced a family of cygnets of varying numbers. They are very attentive parents and for the most part have managed to protect their offspring from predators…
