And what the Australian government has done is make voting day a festive day. At the polling booths, they have free burgers and drinks and goodies for kiddies. The fine for not voting is a measly $20. Hardly the price of a 12 pack of beer.

i agree with your sentiments and am a supporter of compulsory voting in Canada. the last federal voting turnout was 42%.

My feeling? If you live in a democracy, you have an obligation to vote. Be responsible.
