Throughout my lifetime, I have met many people who cling onto problems or issues that might or might not have occurred in their childhood or teenage years. More often than not, their parents are to blame for many supposed ills. This group of people see themselves as victims and embrace past events of a negative nature is a lifeline of sorts.

Many cannot let go of these perceived injustices they claim to have undergone. I am sure many of them do not even want to let go. They nurse their problems, talk about them, complain about them and let them be their guiding light into a miserable future. Any suggestion made for treatment are dismissed, often accompanied by; “you don’t know what it’s like.”

Well, yes I do. I struggled for many years to overcome childhood issues and it was not easy.

I have siblings in this group who feel they were terribly mistreated in their childhood. Decades later they are still brooding on and complaining about these perceived injustices they suffered.

We all chose who we want to be and how we present ourselves to the world. I don’t have the right to expect others to be like me. I don’t have the right to expect others to think a certain way…
