Berkley Breathed
Lord, I love this guy’s work. Political and cultural commentary par excellence.
When my kids were still kids, Bloom County was a regular comic strip in our daily newspaper. The kids got hooked and I got hooked and here we are forty years later, still big Bloom County fans. We still have our collection of Bloom County comic books and regularly bring them out when feeling the need for an Opus fix.
Since 1989, the strip is no longer in newspapers. Berkley Breathed (pronounced Breath Ed) decided he no longer wanted to deal with the pressure of daily strip production. In 2015 he resurrected Boom County and opted for Facebook to display his new. If you have not heard of Bloom County and its cast of weird and wonderful characters, click here and join the gang.
The group of crazy characters is comprised of Opus The Penguin (A very neurotic penguin), Bill the Cat (A dirty hairball spitting cat with dubious morals), Milo Bloom (Kid Newspaper Reporter) Cutter John (Wheelchair-bound Vietnam Vet), Steve Dallas (Lawyer with many character flaws), Michael Binkley, (In the mold of Charlie Brown) Oliver Wendell Jones (Black, very high IQ from high IQ family), Portnoy the Groundhog, Milquetoast, a cockroach, Hodge Podge the Rabbit, and a whole host of minor characters who come and go, depending on Berk Breathed’s mood.
