Do You Know Who Your Friends Are?

True friendship is never having to say you're sorry, to use an old cliche.

Friendship! What does it mean? I think if you ask a hundred people, you will get a hundred different answers.

I had coffee with a good friend of mine the other day and our conversation got around to “what is the meaning of friendship?” What defines a friend and what defines a “good” friend?. Is there such a thing as a “bad” friend? What is a “best” friend? If there are best friends, are there also “worst” friends?

Some people like to be surrounded by friends, kind of like a mass security blanket. Possibly, they don’t like being alone as they don’t get on well with their own company. Me? I prefer my own company for the most part. Over the years, I have gradually whittled my friendship list down to a select few. These few are friends I can have frank and open discussions with on any subject matter. I am happy being in their company but I am also happy being in my own company.

I also have many acquaintances and most of them are people I enjoy being around, a few are not but they are kind of quirky and I enjoy their quirkiness. Some of these acquaintances, I would like to get to know better to possibly move them into the friend category but, there is just not enough time in the day to extend…
