Being 79 years of age and having lived in several countries and visited many more, partisan politics in democratic countries seems to be the ordre du jour. I am so tired of the infantile bickering and childish insults that are now common-place in many houses of government. In many instances the brawling, both verbal and physical is downright ugly.

While some may argue partisan politics is necessary for democracy to function effectively, others including me, contend that partisan politics can be detrimental to a country’s well-being. In my humble opinion, it is time for politicians of all political parties to stop their petty and childish bickering and begin working in the best interests of the people and the country. Partisan politics is not conducive to stability nor is it in the best interests of citizens.

Firstly, partisan politics often results in gridlock and polarization. When politicians become more concerned with their party’s interests and their own self-interests than the well-being of their constituents, it can lead to an unwillingness to compromise and work together. This can result in a government that is unable to pass important legislation or take action on pressing issues, leaving the public frustrated and dissatisfied.
