I Have Had A Few Compliments On My Writing Style
Now I have a swelled head.
Not really. I am a very modest fellow and being of Irish heritage do not wear compliments easily. I was quite surprised to receive compliments on my writing style. Really! I struggle at times to get the correct phrase down or to make a sentence flow better. I often have to get up from my chair and take a ‘me” break. That is; a break away from my head. And, I am my own worst critic.
Sometimes thoughts roll out faster than I can type, which is not too surprising given I am a hunt and peck writer, always promising myself I will improve my typing style but never do. Must write this down in my bucket list before I forget.
Every writer has their own style. I am always surprised at what I consider poorly written books at the local library. I have often had a book recommended to me and after several chapters of reading find I don’t like the style. If I don’t like the style, I’m not interested in the plot. But, as with everything, it's all in the eye of the beholder or reader. I think writing should be in a conversational style if that makes sense. Some writers try too hard for correct phrasing and syntax and come across as forced or unnatural.
I think readers like to read a story, an article, or a post as if the writer was talking to them. Perhaps…
