i moved from New Zealand, where I grew up, to North America in my 20s. I grew up speaking English but NOT the kind of English spoken in the US and Canada. Being in the auto business, I had to learn a whole new lexicon of language. Trunk not Boot. Fender not Mudguard. Gasoline not Petrol. Hood not Bonnet. And day to day words; Drugstore not Chemist. Store not Shop. Apartment not Flat. And on and on. In NZ , Can't is pronounced Carnt. Montana is pronounced Montarna. Tomato is pronounced Tomarto. https://medium.com/the-haven/what-is-correct-english-in-the-21st-century-d751bcd77dd6
