I recently watched the documentary on country music by Ken Burns. He had a great deal of archived film going back to the early days of film that showed a lot of crowd scenes from the late 1800s, through World War, the depression, World War 2 and up into the 50s. It was not until the 50s that people in the crowd scenes began to appear plumper. Prior to that, people were definitely thinner. Why? Food was hard to come by. Very simple. You don’t eat, you lose weight. You scarf down high carbo junk food, you get fat.
