I’m 78. It was the 1940s and New Zealand, not the USA. Poems, dittys and songs that are off limits today due to their discriminatory content were common then. The doll was given to me by my grandmother according to an older sister. Appears she used to knit them and give them as gifts. Also I think if you read some of my previous articles, you would know where I stand on bigotry and discrimination.
My circle of best friends as a kid up to the time I left New Zealand included a Maori and a Samoan.
