I’m An Atheist But I Might Be Open To A God
Caveat: Not a religious god.
The late, great Christopher Hitchens was not an atheist. He was an anti theist. In other words, he would not even consider the possibility of a god.
No, he was not agnostic either. An agnostic is a fence sitter. Neither for one side or against. They want to see proof of a god before they will throw their hat into the ring for the god believing side.
Many years ago I gave up believing the nonsense written in the bible. I sincerely do not believe there is someone living above or in some adjoining dimension who interacts with us lowly human beings. For lowly we are. Science has proven we are one DNA removed from chimpanzees and bonobo monkeys.
If there were a god who interacts, why is he (it could be a she but I will use “he” for convenience) so damned selective? A plane crashes and 12 people survive and 50 are killed. Many of the survivors thank god for their good fortune. How do they know god spared them? Did he tap them on the shoulder and say “not your turn, friend”.
The Catholic Church is big on miracles. But when there are 7.7 billion people interacting with our tumultuous nature and our often unreliable machinery on a daily basis, you just know that there are going to be things happening to people that are…
