Information the Cruise Ship Industry Does Not Want You to Know
Yes. I know, I have written on this subject before.
Contrary to what many people think, the earth’s oceans are not infinite. Oceans cover 71 percent of the Earth’s surface and contain 97 percent of the Earth’s water and are integral to all life on earth.
Less than 1 percent of the Earth’s water is fresh water with only 2–3 percent contained in the polar caps and glaciers. Currently, less than ten percent of the global ocean is mapped using modern sonar technology and less than 35 percent of the ocean and coastal waters of the United States has been scientifically mapped.
Oceans are by far the largest carbon sink on the planet, storing some 30 percent of carbon dioxide and 93 percent of all greenhouse gases. Because of increased human activity, the oceans are struggling to keep up. In discussion and studies about ocean issues, the effect of greenhouse gases hasn’t received nearly as much attention as ocean plastic pollution, largely because the problem is not visible.
