I now resolve not to accept any offers of a free trial on the internet where my credit card is required to verify my identity. You know the hype. Try us for 7 days or for 30 days or 90 days. Pay nothing and cancel anytime.

As tempting as these offers are, I am not going get sucked in again. I had two trials that came due over the Christmas /New Year period that I had forgotten about and I had a hell of a job getting my card refunded. Most companies are pretty good at refunding but some are not.

However, this being said, a friend gave me some advice on these internet deals. He has a pre-paid credit card that he uses only for purchases made on line. When he finds something he wants to buy on the Net, he loads the amount of the purchase onto his credit card from his bank account to make the purchase.

At all other times he keeps a balance of one or two dollars on the card. He also uses this card when accepting an offer with a trial period and a cancel any-time clause.
