Story Writing And Other Weirdness
Some stories start well and end badly. Some start badly and end well. Some writers are their own worst critics.
I recently read a novel that began with a good plot, interesting characters and a couple of catchy sub-plots. About halfway through, the story began to fall apart and by the second to last chapter, I really didn't care how it ended and took the book back to the library without finishing it.
What happened? Did the writer lose the plot or just become lazy? If so, it must have been the same with the editor and the publisher. Surely.
My wife and I volunteer at our local amateur theatre and we find the same thing happens with some plays. Also, many have way too much filler as if the writer felt a need to make the play longer and in doing so made a play that could have been short and exciting, made it long and boring. I also see the same things with some articles on Medium. Some begin with a lot of promise and then fizzle out.
I have a friend who has worked in the film business for many years and who has an Oscar for one of the films he co-produced. He has now begun writing scripts and has several that I have proofed for him. In my estimation, several of the scripts he has written tick all my boxes. However, he is not satisfied with…
