The Psychology Of Painting

It takes a lot of courage to put brush to paper I have found.

I received a great gift for Christmas. A beginners painting kit. I have always liked drawing and sketching and have a lot of fun with my 3-year-old grandson in drawing trucks, cars, and other mechanical objects that he enjoys. One day he asked me to color them in. The only medium we had was crayons that are great for drawing with but not so great for painting. It was at that moment my wife was inspired to get me the painting kit.

My great grandfather was a very accomplished painter in oils and created many works of art over the years that I and my siblings and cousins inherited.

According to my mother, I was a good artist when I was a child and she had hopes that I would end up with a career in the arts. This was squashed it seems by my father who insisted that his sons learned a trade. He regarded men in the arts as sissies it seems, according to my mother.

In the last couple of weeks, I have borrowed a few books on beginner painting from the library, checked out some YouTube videos and viewed a number of websites. I have now compiled a couple of pads of pencil sketches and recently carried…
