Writing Is Not Just Simply Writing

A well-written article, blog post or non-fiction story is comprised of more than writing.

Behind every well-written story is a great deal more work than meets the eye. In actual fact, writing is the easy part. Say you have an idea for a story while out walking or carrying out some mundane chore like shopping or getting an oil change. You scribble it down in your ever-present notebook, get home, boot up the laptop and write the heading. Then what?

This is where the work begins. You can research all you want on Google; cull out information and data and statistics. That is what the internet is great for but if you want to get into the nitty-gritty of your subject matter, the library is the place to go for research that digs deeper than a cursory search on the web.

There is a book on just about every subject. Some are a little ancient, some are up to date but the point is, you have to read books relevant to your topic if you want to come across as someone who at least knows what you are writing about. And, reading takes time because as you read, you have to take notes. A lot of notes. That is the most time-consuming part. From your notes will emerge the post or article.
