A friend of mine read my story entitled “ I’m An Atheist But I Might Be Open To a God”. and wrongly concluded that my title indicated I was looking at believing in a god in a spiritual sense. While he was enthused about the title, he was disappointed in the story.

I need to explain.

What I am not doing is coming from a possible belief in god or a god through a religious doorway. I’m coming at it through a creator doorway.

There are those who believe in god as a creator who interacts with humans and cares what happens to us. Hah! He (always a he) made the earth in 7 days, used to interact with humans (but doesn’t anymore) answers prayers (or doesn’t), creates miracles, (or doesn’t) talks from a burning bush (what is that about?), smites people he does not like (Egyptians, Amorites, Hittites, Jebusites, Hivites, Perizzites, and Girgashites) wipes out whole populations including everyone on earth and the animals (what did the animals do?), parts oceans and is generally pretty nasty (had his son murdered to make some weird point) and is often petulant and misogynistic.

He wants you to obey 10 rules, most of which don’t make any sense and he hates you if you don’t (fire and brimstone and pillars of salt). He wants you to adore him on your knees on a daily basis or three times a…
